Halloween Makeup Safety Tips

Happy Halloween! Our favorite time of year is finally upon us! Face painting is a great way to enhance any Halloween costume. While we look forward to seeing all of the kiddies (and adults) in costumes, we encourage everyone to keep the following face painting safety tips in mind:

• If you're purchasing your own makeup kit, be sure to read the ingredients label. Non-toxic does not always mean the product is safe for use on your skin and face.
  
• Never use crafts paints (acrylics, tempuras, markers, etc.) on the face.
• As with all make-up, some people have allergies. If you're not sure, do a spot test on the inside of the child's elbow. Wait 20 minutes before proceeding.
• Professional face paint is cosmetic grade make-up that is FDA compliant and safe for use on the skin. We use and trust Snazaroo, Paradise, Mehron, Kryolan, Wolfe FX and Ben Nye brands.
• Using a sponge to apply face paint is not only safer when applying to the eye area but also covers the face quicker. Take care when using the paint brush in the eye area.
• You can use any color face paint for designs. Use colors to match the costume and think outside the box...a pink skull, a blue cat, etc.
• If using glitter to complement a design, don't use craft glitter. You can find cosmetic-grade glitter at your local beauty supply store.
• Professional makeup will come off easily with a washcloth, warm water and a bit of gentle cleansing soap.
  
• Face painting is not recommended for children under two.
